I was honoured to be invited to the National Olympic Committee of Mongolia, where its Secretary General and Mongolia's only boxing Olympic Champion, Enkhbatyn Badar-Uugan, awarded me the prestigious Olympic Glory medal for contributions to the Olympic Movement.
The fact that we all feel the excitement about the competition that will get underway in 10 days time is also a reminder of the precarious situation our sport faces. As things stand today, Paris 2024 could be the last ever Olympic Boxing tournament. WORLD BOXING was set up precisely to avoid this situation from happening, and its number one priority is to ensure boxing remains at the heart of the Olympic Movement. #TimeForWORLDBOXING #putitonencyclopedia
I believe that World Boxing and the Mongolian Boxing Federation will continue to srenghten our cooperation. Stay tuned as exciting news is coming soon.
These were high-profile events featuring Olympic medalists from Tokyo and top contenders for Paris 2024 medals. Congratulations to the Danish Boxing Association and the Brazilian Boxing Confederation for their efforts in developing Olympic-style boxing!
From October 25th to November 5th in the city of Pueblo, Colorado, men and women boxers aged 17 and 18 will compete across all 20 weight categories. We will definitely witness spectacular battles of the future boxing superstars. I would like to congratulate USA Boxing as well as to express my gratitude. I am certain that Chair Tyson Lee and his team will do everything to stage a world class event for the boxers and boxing fans across the globe. WORLD BOXING team is also eager to ensure a high quality delivery.
The 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Tournament is underway! 578 boxers from 132 countries are set to compete in Thailand for the remaining 51 Olympic quota places from May 24 until June 2. All eyes in the world of Olympic-style boxing will be on Bangkok over the next 10 days, where we expect to see over 500 extremely competitive bouts. It’s the last call for boxers who are dreaming of competing in Paris, so they have to leave everything in the ring and even more. Once again, my gratitude to the IOC and the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit for saving the Olympic Dreams of boxers for Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. I believe that for the next Olympics in LA28 it will be time for WORLD BOXING to take over! #Paris2024 #OlympicBoxing #putitonencyclopedia
More than 300,000 views of competition bouts on social media, reinforcing our constant development and growth. Huge respect to Nederlandse Boksbond president Len Huard and Eindhoven Box Cup Director Jeremie Besson for their excellent work together.
Together with WORLD BOXING Secretary General, Simon Toulson, we had an important first formal meeting with key representatives of the International Olympic Committee. #putitone #putitonencyclopedia #TimeForWORLDBOXING #KeepBoxingOlympic
Sharing World Boxing values not only with the sports community but also with business leaders is important for the growth of our young international sports governing body. Yesterday, I was one of the speakers at a meeting of the Bunnikse Handel en Industrie Kring (BHIK) – the association of entrepreneurs in my hometown of Bunnik, which has more than 100 members. I spoke about the journey that the entire World Boxing family is currently undertaking to reform the world of boxing and secure our sport's place at the heart of the Olympic Games. The audience listened with interest, judging by a high number of questions and encouraging comments, and this is another indication for me that World Boxing is on the right path.#TimeForWORLDBOXING
Boxing is a sport that excites and engages millions across the world. We all share a passion for boxing and agreed that it is important to support its development at every level, from grassroots and recreational, to the high performance Olympic style, and all the way to pro level. WBC is a prominent professional boxing governing body that recognizes the importance of boxing’s Olympic inclusion. World Boxing and England Boxing understand the importance of the opportunities that pro boxing offers for the boxers. Open and close cooperation is important between all governing bodies to ensure a bright future for the sport we love.
After a long journey from Europe to the USA, I’ve already had time to explore the venue, which looks good, and to speak with USA Boxing President Tyson Lee, Chinese Boxing Federation President Chen Liren, the Chinese Taipei delegation, World Boxing Athlete Committee member, world champion Tammara Thibeault, with former World Boxing Interim Board member Karina Picson, and others.
On this day one year ago, the starting point for changes in Olympic-style boxing was officially set. We launched World Boxing, which gave hope to everyone in our sport for the future. The last 12 months have been very active and productive for World Boxing. Together with our great team and responsible National Federations, we hosted the Inaugural Congress, held World Boxing Cups in Cologne and Sheffield, approved the World Boxing Strategic Plan, Competition Rules, and Competition Calendar, and accomplished many other important tasks. I want to thank everyone who joined us on our mission to keep boxing at the heart of the Olympic Games. I truly believe that our biggest achievements are yet to come.
